I find it strangely telling that the first hit on a Google search for “philosophy” is a website for a cosmetic product.

Hello! I’m Anna Tibstra, a junior art history major and philosophy minor at GAC. This semester, I’m studying at the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in Oxford, England.

(In case you were wondering where all those silly books come from, I walked past it a while ago. )

Though I’m not specifically studying philosophy here, I’ve found plenty of use for my philosophical skills. The second text my program is reading as a group is the Proslogion by Anselm. Luckily, as people who attended chapel last year might remember, Prof. Huff gave a homily on the ontological argument last spring. I wasn’t exactly taking notes in chapel…but it gave me an idea of what I was reading. Though I don’t take Anselm’s argument as proof that God exists, I was able to understand his terms and processes more thoroughly than I ever would have without philosophy classes.

Until next time, enjoy the lovely colors and weather of autumn in Minnesota!
