This year’s Nobel Conference holds much of interest for the philosophically-minded (ar ar); the areas of intersection between brain science and philosophy of mind are many and various. If you find its issues to be intriguing, you might also be interested in The Brain Science Podcast, a monthly podcast that is described as being “for everyone who has a brain.” The show’s format features either a synopsis of an important book in some field related to brain science, or an interview with a brain scientist or philosopher. The host, Ginger Campbell, quite regularly includes works of philosophy of mind. Here are several episodes of particular interest to philosophers:
- A review of Did My Neurons Make Me Do It? co-authored by Nobel speaker Nancey Murphy.
- An interview with philosopher Patricia Churchland, author, most recently, of Brain-Wise: Studies in Neurophilosophy.
- An interview with dualist (!) David Chalmers
- An interview with Alva Noe, author of Out of Our Heads: Why You Are Not Your Brain, and Other Lessons from the Biology of Consciousness
The complete list of podcast episodes can be found here; there’s something of a sequence to the episodes, so it can be very useful to begin with some of the original episodes, which discuss fundamental concepts in philosophy of mind.
